Frequently Asked Questions

Perhaps your question is already listed below.
And if not, you are always welcome to get in touch. Sometimes a process simply begins with a question that has not been asked before.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a body-oriented method that helps process experiences, emotions, and tensions that often lie deeper than words alone can reach.
The basic principle is simple: where you look influences what you feel. By focusing attention on a specific eye position while simultaneously staying in touch with what is happening within the body, space is created for the nervous system to process at its own pace.

Brainspotting forms an important part of my work but never stands alone. Every session is tailored to the person sitting opposite me.

Do I need to know exactly what is going on?

That is not necessary.
Many people know very clearly what they want to work on. Others only feel that something is pressing, recurring, or asking for attention.
Both are a good starting point.
We can start from a feeling, a physical tension, an event, or even a vague desire for change. Together, we explore step by step what wants to reveal itself.

Do I have to tell my whole story?

You don't have to tell your whole story.
Some people tell a lot, others very little. Often, a few words, a feeling, or a theme is enough to continue working together.
The pace at which something is told or explored always remains attuned to what feels safe and appropriate for you.

Do you work according to a fixed protocol?

My way of working has a clear structure but no fixed script.
Every session is different because every person is different.
I work based on attunement, safety, and the pace at which your nervous system experiences space to allow new experiences.

Do you work exclusively with Brainspotting?

Brainspotting forms an important basis of my work, but not everything has to be Brainspotting. Depending on your question, a session may also include elements from counseling, focusing, nervous system regulation, systemic work, or other body-oriented approaches.
The method is never the central focus. You are.

What kind of questions can I come to you with?

People come to me with very different questions, for example regarding:

• stress and overload;
• anxiety or restlessness;
• significant life events or trauma;
• loss and grief;
• recurring patterns;
• high sensitivity or overstimulation;
• physical tension;
• personal development;
• the desire for more peace, direction, or connection.

You do not need a diagnosis for this.

Do you also work online?

Yes.
A large part of my work takes place online via Zoom. Many people find this surprisingly personal and effective.
Additionally, I work from Dordrecht.

Do you also work in English?

Yes.

I guide clients and Brainspotting professionals from various countries. Sessions can take place in both Dutch and English.

How long does a session last?

Most individual sessions last about an hour and a half.
Different times may apply for group consultations or workshops. We will coordinate this together in advance.

How many sessions are usually needed? That varies from person to person and from question to question.
Some people are satisfied with just a few sessions. Others opt for a longer process that allows more room for in-depth exploration and integration.

We do not work with a standard treatment plan. Together, we always look at what is appropriate at that moment.

Is this therapy?

I work as a Brainspotting Practitioner and Brainspotting Consultant.
Some people come with therapeutic questions, while others seek guidance in personal development, professional deepening, or processing traumatic experiences.
During an initial session, we can explore together whether my approach aligns with what you are looking for.

Can I meet first?

Of course.
A first session does not have to prove anything or provide immediate solutions.
Often, it is primarily an opportunity to get acquainted, ask questions, and explore together whether my approach fits what you need at this moment.

Do you have a question that is not listed here?

Feel free to send a message.
I am happy to think along with you or, if that suits you better, refer you to someone else.
